I don't want to get into it, but just because they have similar reagents and products, does not make that process chemically indistinguishable. I mean, there was a time when people thought food was literally burned in your body to produce energy, but then the Enlightenment happened.

I didn't realize that it was quite that complicated, but even my high school science classes managed to show me that combustion and cellular respiration reactions are quite different.

And this is why Biochemistry has some of the highest drop-out rates and lowest GPAs after Math and Physics.

I feel like kind of an idiot now.
I know it's more complicated than sugar in, carbon dioxide and water out, but that similarity is what had struck me.

Re: Weird Realizations
On a daily basis, I clamber down a ladder that were I to fall from, I would likely bash my head off of something and receive a serious injury or critically damage my spine.
I also ignite a flammable gas to create boiling water in a burning-hot metal container, just so I can have a drink, and I generally do this several times each day. If I let out too much gas, or if the valve system malfunctioned, I could cause a serious fire or gas explosion. If I mishandled the container, I could receive second-degree burns, and if I spilled the water, I could scald myself very easily.
Now ask me why I don't like cars as a form of mass-transportation

I'm not a biochemist, but somehow that diagram is utterly beautiful and I really want a copy of it to adorn my bedroom wall. I've managed to track down the original pdf, so if I can find someone to print it at a decent size I might be a very happy nerd!

And some of it is a constant beam of particles called photons, which push through the atmosphere and ricochet off of everything you see. We call it "light".
Similarly, heat and sound are forms of radiation, the world is vastly engulfed in it, its only specific forms of radiation (such as ionising radiation) that are actually bad for us as organic entities.

Just a quick google: http://www.a2posterprinting.com/ or http://www.liquidimaging.co.uk/largeformatposters_prices.asp
(These results were taken randomly from a google search, I was bored)

You can usually find some version of it in bedroom-poster sized at uni bookstores.
It's neat to see how incredibly complex, tightly regulated, and yet stunningly elegant life really is.

Sort of on-topic: We are the middle children of history.
The best you're going to get is reading about all the cool shit those guys at Kepler and COROT are doing.

Re: Weird Realizations
Media is the plural of medium. Fricken English language discombobulating the definitions of directly related words.
(Yes, I know media and medium actually do have similar/the same definition in at least once sense, but most people don't think of "medium" as related to fine arts)

Neither heat nor sound are radiation. Heat is the transfer of energy while sound is a mechanical wave.
We are all made of star dust. However we are also made of nuclear waste.

I believe the combined Physics and Biochemistry program at UVic had the lowest completion rate of any program in science. Admittedly most people still end up with either a biochemistry or a physics degree.

Re: Weird Realizations
Heat is radiated away from objects, sound I admit more "emanates" than "radiates", but certainly the effect is virtually identical.

I didn't even know that was a thing (though it makes sense). Why not just have a Suicide program?
And Lying, if you want to talk science, you should be much more precise in your language.
