Hey graphic designer types

Postby thatlaurachick » 11 Jun 2011, 09:05

I'm starting a consulting business and need a logo. I really can't offer monies, but you are welcome to keep the image for your portfolio, or distribute under CC.

Here's my Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/solutiomusica

What is SolutioMusica? It's Latin for "musical solutions." A way to combine my engineering background with my love of promoting music. I offer marketing, promotion, development and administrative services to musicians and non-profit organizations.

If you'd be interested in designing a logo, PM me or respond here.

If you think this post is spam... um, you can stop reading now.

I might be able to do something, but I'm 14, and I don't have photoshop so I may not be able to get one to you and even if I do, expect better from others. But I do love graphical design, so I can give it a go.

I'm assuming if you're doing this and yo won't be handing out monies then you can't really pay for a proper company to do it?

Do you have any preferred styles? Or sort of font? Do you want me to include the words, or just have the letters, and is there any symbols you want included? I can work from scratch, but it would help if there were a hint or 2 on what you want from the logo? Also, would you like one with all the words, and one with just the letters?

Phen - this request is aimed at designers looking to build a business portfolio. I'm guessing you aren't in this category.

Basically, take the name and what Laura has given you then draw a hell of a lot of different ideas. Show them to Laura then she will pick ones she likes then you go out and tweak and improve them again with more designs.

Nope, but I seriously love graphics. Thought I might do this for a bit of fun. Sort of like work experience. But fair enough if you'd prefer leaving it in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. Probably a better choice.

*Sigh*

Hey mods - feel free to lock/delete this thread. It's pointless now. This wasn't a graphics education thread, I was appealing to what used to be a decent number of designers on the forum.

Nevermind. Geez.

Hey. If you want to do some graphics I think it would be best if you set yourself your own bran ideas and try and work on those as a way of getting some idea on how it is done. I don't mean to sound cruel but Laura is hoping to actually use it for a business. The major problem for you is, if you don't have Photoshop, GIMP or Painter you won't get too far.
I've done a bit of graphics design at Uni and I was bad at it, so I'm not digging at you saying I am the best.

I got GIMP, and although I'm not as good as an actual pro, I think I might give it a go. By all means go with someone else, this is just me passing the time, but its also a challenge. Sorry I'm not what you've hoped for.

It doesn't help with the way you presented yourself either, sorry.

'Thought I might do this for a bit of fun'
'this is just me passing the time'

Unless you're willing to say: I'm going to put an ass tonne of work into it it might help. Saying I'm 14 isn't the best thing to say either. I'll stop being a dick now.

I have a rough idea and I can see what I can do, Laura, but I'm still using the "Vault" computer in my personal network and it's sparse in the way of programs. I'd have to reinstall Illustrator first before I can take a crack at it.

Give me a couple of days and I'll see if I can crank out a rough draft.

Hey Laura; I did a year of Art and Design, specialising in Graphics and Photography. I love design work, logos, fonts.. I'll give it a go if you're still looking for help. It'd be great to have something new to put in my portfolio, too; I tend to work better to someone else's requests, so I've been struggling to make new things lately. :?

It may take me a little while, though. Maybe a week or more. It'd still be great to have more of a brief for what you're looking for, though - colour scheme choices, something in an existing/established style, an idea of what group or family of fonts you'd like to use.

Also.. I'm no great shakes at web design, only a beginner's course and a desire to design and learn, but I'd be willing to have a stab at doing a site for you, too. I'm not really terribly good at coding, so that'd be less elegant than perhaps it could be, but hey; I'd be willing to give it a try. ;)

Ok - for anyone who wants a serious try... I'm looking for something graphic. Ha. Ok - simple.
This is going to be on my business cards, used as my FB and twitter avatar. It needs to convey the idea of music + business.

B&W is fine, but color is cool too. No photo realism, not my style. Use of the name (SolutioMusica) or initials is fine, or just a graphic. If you prefer to make it personal to me, reference my tattoo (giant pair of angel wings).

Other than that, I don't have any preferences. I'm asking for help because for all the design work I do for my clients, it's never 100% original. I wish I could pay you for this, but since I can barely cover rent... *sigh*

Anywho, have a go guys. I'm really open minded. I don't have any pre-conceived ideas so if you want to experiment go wild. I'd like you to create something that people will ask me about and I can send them your way.

Hey, a professional piece, some quality portfolio filler, and word of mouth reputation is pretty good instead of cashmonies. ;)

My offer of web design was that it be free, too. Need the practice. :D

I think SM might not be the best initials to use. No offence but it carries some... rather different meanings. If you catch my drift. Especially for business cards I'd say go with the full name, although this would become nigh unreadable in avater size.

Photoshop is for photos, logos and graphics should all be made in In design or illustrator which create vector images and not raster.

Vector files can be adjusted to suit whatever size you need, where as raster can only be used at the resolution they were made at with out tearing or pixelating.
It doesnt help does it?

I did a version, so here it is. Spent most of the night working on it. Didn't half-ass it like my post makes me sound like I would, this did genuinly take me the entire night. I'm sure the others all do something better, but I wanted to give it a go, so here is my first draft. I made 2 others, but this one works best: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/70 ... logo1.jpg/
I'm sure Vanguard and Jester 'll come up with something better, but, you know, thought I could try. SM isn't that bad a name. Now if the title was something lie S&M, that would put people off.

Cuppa, I've tried using Illustrator to draw, and the fact that it's vector and not raster would be really useful to some of the stuff I do, but I just can't get the brushes working like I can in Photoshop. I've tried Googleing solutions, but my Google-fu is weak.. but even with my weak Google-fu, I still couldn't see anything about changing the preset brush types or making the pressure sensor for my tablet work. :?

Nice attempt. The notes look good but not the one enveloping them. It looks like you took a smaller note and just scaled it up to surround the others. Only other issue is it isn't eye catching. Feel free to critique my one when I put it up some time soon. This is the best way to learn.

It would of been better if you'd taken the scaled up note and used it as a stencil for making your own that looks crisper and cleaner.

Otherwise, it's a simple design, certainly not a bad one, but it lacks that extra oomph! Definetly keep it up though. ^^

I would give making a logo a whack, but I'm afraid that I'm not a very good graphical designer and will thus leave it to the people with experience. =)

Hey Laura, do you want a wing design that looks specifically like your tattoo, or just the inclusion of wings in some way?

Totally up to you. Honestly. I've had some questions about how to "personalize" it and honestly, I don't care.

This is why I asked. :) I'm not creative in the artistic sense.

Alright, followed the advice and removed the semibreve. Still could be more eye catching though.
