Tommy Wiseau is at it again...

Postby empath » 16 Sep 2011, 04:41

The Tommy Wi-Show is coming.

The premise rips off MST3K by Tommy being kidnapped by aliens (instead of a mad scientist) and held on the moon (instead of orbit) and forced to play video games (instead of watch movies).

Also I think he stole the literal title from the Nostalgia Critic, although the latter was probably just intending parody, and never sought to have "The Tommy Wi-Show" actually created. :)

As if this isn't bad enough, I also instantly got a vibe that he'd be ripping off Unskippable...sort of - if he ends up heckling the games he's forced to play (which would be reasonable to expect if the show follows MST3K in giving him BAD vidja games to play). Bit of a stretch, tho - at that point, you could argue Desert Bus for Hope rips off MST3K with the 'unwilling participation in BAD media' :)

I think this might well flop; The Room was a hit because it was so awful that it was funny - a la Plan 9 from Outer Space. But this seems like he's deliberately going to try to be funny, and he's just gonna fall flat on his face.

The Nostalgia Critic was my first thought too. Funny because they had them remove the review of The Room which is why he the Tommy Wiseau Show

As I asked most people when I heard about this: WHAT HAS MACHINIMA DONE?!?!?

But thinking about it now, it's most likely that people will watch "The Tommy Wi-Show" because The Room was terrarious (i.e. a chimera of terrible and hilarious), but I've got a feeling that after a few episodes this thing will probably be dead (just like Johnny!).

I think this has potential.

I doubt anyone involved with the show is seriously expecting him to be legitimately funny on his own power. My guess is that most of the humour will come from the audience lauging at Wiseau's failed attempts to be funny.

Says the man with the Tommy Wiseau avatar.

Personally, I'm going to have to watch it at least once, just out of morbid curiosity.

Ah, but there's the rub - if someone attempts to be dramatic or interesting or cultured, and they fail, the result can unintentionally evoke humour.

...but if someone ATTEMPTS to be funny but fails, the result IS NOT FUNNY, even in a 'oh, that's so bad it's funny' way. :|

I'll wait for the Nostalgia Critic review of it before passing judgement, to be honest - even a stopped clock is right twice a day...

It should be noted, in an entirely related vein:

If you are available this Saturday, you should go to The Room at The Rio Theatre in Vancouver, BC. Tommy Wiseau will(at least, he should) be attending, give a short interview before the film(two showings, 7 and 9:30), and have to put up with me being drunk and yelling at him(9:30 showing).

If you can make it, please, feel free to show up. I'll be the drunk one who lost his pants.

Now that LRR has thoroughly covered Uwe Boll, I think Mr. Wiseau is the next logical step. It would be awesome if they could interview Tommy W.

Needs less Wiseau playing videogames, more Wiseau acting horribly.

Still, the acting parts were horribly bad, entertainingly so. I'll be watching the next few.

This is hilarious! He's as weird as ever & endlessly quotable.

"Dis not mai haouuse!"
"Alien, why you bring me HEEur?!"
"But I AM REAULLY GOODAT THEIUS!"

As long as he's taking suggestions, we should have a group consensus here & all vote in the comments. I suggest Mario Kart, unless he's limited to the PS3.

I couldn't watch the whole thing, it was just that bad.

I mean, at first I was like "Okay, he's doing the Wiseau everyone trolls to get views, okay"

But then the moment he actually drifted into playing the video game and just regular "I'm playing a video game and trying to be talkative" sort of sentences, I realise "Oh god...he's actually just that bad..."

Welp, thanks for being my beta testers, folks! I've never sat through more than maybe fifteen minutes of The Room (first time turned off in revulsion, but after the whole Plan 9 Syndrome took hold, I've had to shut it off to breathe :) ), and now I don't have to worry about this...unless I'm in a 'so horribly awful it's actually funny' mood.
