Bioshock - Final Thoughts

Postby Pattmyn » 06 Sep 2007, 17:07

Ok, so anyone who's been interested in playing Bioshock probably already has now so what's everyone's final thoughts? I've been finding the game pretty enjoyable, but for some reason the plot seems really hollow to me. Game play is stellar but I'm finding the same strategies are the only one that works which really eliminates variety in a lot of ways.

Also, this video on the game had my dying laughing but also sparked the topic.

Shhh. I am going to buy an xbox 360 for the sole purpose of playing it. Please don't spoil it yet.

That's the kind of power you have Graham. You can make people buy xbox 360s, and games. Microsoft should be paying you.

The second I saw the media capabilities and the qualities of the games, I was sold. That and the wireless controllers originally took me as covered in awesomesauce.

Microsoft's Model - Give people more of what they want. Solid all around system, robust power, even game spread with a few bad / a few awesome, excellent online components and downloads.

Nintendo's Model - Revive the thing that made Nintendo great back in the day: Innovation. Cool new ideas, cool new takes on old ideas, lots of good solid games that are fun. Oldschool Nintendo, with a modern day twist.

Sony's Model - Shoot yourself in the foot, repeatedly.

That made me laugh. But seriously, do you think it's a coincidance that an earthquake shook Japan days after the release of the PS3? I think not.

I hope no one hates me for this, but I've always said: "A PS3 is the illegitimate son of the Wii and PS2."

Think about it...

Yeah but you just know the PS2 is sitting in a dark corner, face in palm, saying "I have no son..."

That's why the Wii is so fun: it drinks.

And let me tell you, the Wii is one fun drunk.

Do not plan on buying the game, as I don't have a system to play it on. HOWEVER, I must say that after seeing the ads for it on ESPN during the PSU-Notre Dame game (Go State!!!), I agree with anyone who says they would buy sericels of the backgrounds or anything from the game. It is very pretty to look at as a still. I probably wouldn't want to play it because I'd suck worse than a broken Hoover.

That is a very funny video.
Thing is, I agree with all of what he said, but I still love the game.

I guess it's because I am a console gamer, and I've never played System Shock 2, so it's all new to me.
Still: So good.

I'm with Graham on this, I acknowledge that it my have taken a shit tons from system shock two, but having never played SS 2 the fact that Bioshock does what it does will never degrade quality for me. It's still, for all intents and purpose, and amazing experience.

Like Yahtzee said in the video, it's not that it's a bad game, it just has flaws.

Even SS2 had some pretty big problems, and even the developers said that the weapon degradation system was a terrible idea.

System Shock 2 wasn't as good as Bioshock, IMO.
I can't think of a signature.
