Fighting Robots, preety pictures

Postby zombine » 19 Jan 2008, 13:12

I am part of my high schools Science Olympiad team. Its kind of like geek sports, being that we have large regional, state, and national level tournaments.

This year, one of the events is sumo bots. sorta like battlebots, but without the ability to mount a battle axe to your RC car.

Anyways, right now we have a completed robot, but just a blank aluminum shell. i need clever ideas on paint jobs/pictures.

The most original/ highest regarded design will be used.

here are a few pictures.

So you want to know what to paint on it? I think the answer is obvious.

Along the sides:

Dot Dot Dot
Circle
Chevron

On the wedge face, you should paint a giant maple leaf.

On the front, have this picture(minus the motivation):

On the left side put the word: Desu
On the right side: Desu
On the back: Desu.

On one side, have red and white, with Canadaman's sigil - or a red toque with a maple leaf.

On the other side, a bowl of poutine with a black beret against crossed baguettes.

I LIKE CHOCOLATE MILK.

Heh. This is GEEK sports, guys, you need to think GEEKIER. I say it really depends on what the name of the robot's going to be. For example, The Crusigramer, a lovely violent sounding name, would be appropriately covered with half-completed crossword puzzles. Static Discharge might be covered with accurate and now-defunct electrical circuit diagramas, or for a more classic motif, The Gear Grinder, with some nice brass gears, would do.

That or just paint Legend of Zelda stuff all over it, and watch as everyone OMGSPAZes all over your robot.

Wait, better yet, I don't know how you could do it, but your robot MUST look like one of these:

Even better, paint it solid in a flammable paint. Then set it on fire. That would rock Lavos' face off.

THIS is a great idea.

Or put a massive Canadaman picture on the top, then paint LRR logos on the sides.

In the back, paint "Canadaman".

It would be relatively easy to paint shadowed spots that looked like three-dimensional hemispheres, thus creating the Dalek Effect.

Also: paint it white, then cover it with red hearts and lipstick marks. It's a lover, and a fighter!

Im seriously considering the Canadian leaf on the top, then a red version of the LRR logo on each side, and the words "we kick Asimov" on the back end.

all on top of black.

we also have a printer capable of taking STICKERS so if you send awesome images, i can put them directly on.

and also, the bot is a whore, so if you can pimp a link for cash if you want(PM me)

if not that then we are painting one bot like a cake, and this one like the companion cube

We didn't even take anything off last year before battling.
We won third for our county.

The problem is that, with the current rules as-is, there's an obvious optimal design for the robots: wedges.

All of the winners of BattleBots were wedges, which makes for a very boring competition.
