"How Could Anyone Beat the Flash?"

Postby Tim » 10 Dec 2008, 11:38

So I'm a big fan of The Flash, and I honestly feel that outside of Superman, and maybe the Silver Surfer, no other superhero really holds a candle to him in terms of being able to defeat him head-to-head.

So I want to know from all of you, how would your favourite superhero possibly beat The Flash? For the sake of consistency, let's go with Barry Allen's Flash, since, AFAIK, he is generally considered the "most powerful" of the various Flashes.

Take your best shot.

from all the famous american superhero's is the flash indeed the coolest
i mean, he's fucking fast and is so much lol

but sadly death could kill him and so could anyone able to stop time

however, im not a superhero kinda guy ;P

Sure The Flash is fast, but no one is as fast as Grandmaster Flash.

Now, I may be wrong, but I'd like to think a well-placed clothesline could be a good start. Seriously, I ran into one of those before. It sucks.

Except that The Flash can think and perceive as fast as he moves, meaning no one could possibly throw up a clothesline faster than he could see it and react to it.

I'd say it might be possible for Catwoman to beat him via seduction. Tranq-shotting him during a moment of distraction/drugged lipstick/something like that would probably work. (I know that's more Pam's M.O. but meh) Same for Zatanna - moreso, because he already has an admitted "thing" for her. I think the seduction deal would probably work a bit better on the Wally West flash, though... as he didn't have the nice "finance to go home to" thing that Barry did (at least not for the majority of his run).

Goddamit do I love the Flash.

On that note, have you ever heard "the Ballad of Barry Allen" by Jim's Big Ego? It's incredibly awesome.

On a further note, did you ever see the Lex Luthor/Flash episode of JLU? That is one of the greatest/funniest episodes of TV I've ever seen. Also one of the best examples of adult jokes slipped obliquely into an all-ages TV show.

Nah, I meant like a literal clothesline. The kind you put clothes on. Except much stronger than a standard one.

Meh, I'm sure he could still avoid it, but I think it could be funny if that's what took him down.

See, my favorite super power is from a guy who isn't a "Super Hero". Anywho, he can form miniature gravity wells in space around himself through concentrated willpower. Suffice it to say, he uses these gravity wells to attract objects in certain ways. By cleverly placing or manipulating them, he can fling objects, stop bullets, basically control any motion of any sort so long as he concentrates and focuses his attention. He can fly or levitate with it, lots of stuff.

See now, what makes the Flash so tricky is he moves at incredible speeds and as a result he has heightened perception of the world. If you got the drop on any mortal super hero, you could snipe them in the head and good night Gracie. Not so with the Flash, as he would be alerted to the bullet before it reached him and move to avoid.

Thus, to kill Flash you need to not only take him by surprise, the surprise has to be something so unexpected that there is no way he can react to it. Now, back to my gravity fellow, we suddenly have a very simple solution. The Flash is approached by a common looking fellow, suspects nothing, and before he has any clue what has happened a very small, focused gravity well has formed inside of his skull and compacted his brain, killing him instantly.

Of course, likewise, if the Flash decided to get the drop on him, he could just run past with a blade and shiv this guy in the eye before anyone knew what was what.

The Flash can react faster than any other living being, but he still can't see the future.

I say get him to chase you or flee down a narrow corridor with some razor sharp metal cord at neck level.

Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern could just put him in some sort of field without oxygen, since his metabolism works faster than a normal human, he'd run out of air faster too, then GL could just send him to deep space.

Also, the Goddamn Batman has a plan to get rid of him.

Black Flash is the obvious answer. If memory serves, it took a whole group of heroes to get the Flash away from him. Woo zombie speedsters.

Any of the Lanterns could take care of it, Green or otherwise.

A multi-generational "Flash-fight" would be amusing to see, especially if they were relatively on par with one another in terms of speed and strength.

Simple you get the greatest hero of all, Jean-Luc Picard to beam the Flash into space or to set up the transporter to dematerialize and not rematerialize.

Oh! That, for some reason, reminded me of another option!

Juggernaut, anybody?

If the Flash can move at nearly the speed of light (or at/beyond the speed of light, depending on which one we're talking about) AND the Juggernaut cannot be stopped once he starts moving, what happens if they run into each other?

Well, for starters, there's anyone who can manipulate time. They could make it so that he moves slower.

Max Mercury can steal speed from others. The Martian Man-Hunter could get inside his head, give him pscyho-sematic paralysis, then peel him like a grape.

Then there'se cirumcstance-based vicotry possibilities. For example, what exactly is the battle over? Where are they fighting? Is this Barry Allen thinking and behaving as Barry really would (IE, could they use his wife as a trap?)? Does Barry have to beat THEM (this ould make a CONSIDERABLE difference, as requiring Barry to get close enough to harm someone would give a number of heroes and villains a tacitcal advantage).

Then there's Batman, who would win because of comic book rule number 1: don't fuck with Batman.

There is no way in ever that Batman could beat The Flash. Batman is just not that cool. Sorry.
