Snow!

Postby theduckthief » 14 Dec 2008, 08:54

I walked home last night thinking the conditions were perfect for snow. It even smelled like snow, which I know sounds weird.

My car is buried, I'm not going to risk driving anywhere today as the plows haven't come by my place yet but it finally feels like Christmas here in Victoria.

It was really too big:

We had snow. Then we had freezing rain that washed away the snow. Then we had snow again. Then we had freezing rain the next day to wash it away again. This started two weeks ago. Currently my lawn is as green as can be and the sun is shining. As it is currently 11 below, I do not expect it to stay this way for long.

Yes, we used to have snow here in the UK, now we have drizzle. Stupid mild winters...I want my childhood memories back!

We had 4 inches in Louisiana. I don't know what the fuck happened with that cosmic miscalculation.

At any rate, snow's gone now.

We've had snow since early November here in Ontario.

And it probably won't go away until early March.

If it snows again tonight (or even stays cold), school will probably be canceled due to icy roads tomorrow. Fuck yes.

The only time school has been cancelled due to snow for me was 2 years ago, when it snowed 36 cm overnight.

We don't own snow plows, or know how to drive in snow, seeing as we rarely get it. 2 inches = Snow day.

It's 0 degrees Fahrenheit here, and it's been snowing since last night. Being the smart guy I am, I walked to church in it. Oops.

No snow here in Portland yet, but I hear it's snowed a lot back home in Moscow (Idaho), so winter break will be full of snowy activities

edit: Correction now that I'm awake and have seen outside. It has snowed in Portland. I hope it lasts.

It snowed a little here last week (And in dutch standards a little is maybe half an inch at most) 2 inches would just about bring the Netherlands to a standstill especially if it's unexpected.

By now it's just somewhat chilly with a weak little sun out.

We've had some snow, but last night it was just falling slush. Never seen the stuff START as the disgusting slushy garbage, but it did this time.

What I forgot to mention is that it will snow about 3-4 inches 1 day, then for the next week or so it will slowly begin to melt away until there about 1-2 cm of snow on the ground, at which point it snows 3-4 inches again.

Repeat process.

Y'know, out here we can get 5 inches of snow overnight, and still have to go to school the next day. If it's only a centimetre though with some light rain, then they'll close schools. At least that's what happened on Friday verses the previous Monday.

At least we're not Toronto and call in the Army though.

Here, the school buses are occaisionally cancelled with more than 6 inches of snow, but the school itself remains open.

In Victoria everything shuts down if it snows or if it looks like it's going to snow or if someone remembers a time when it snowed.

Still, it's gorgeous outside! The perfect hot chocolate day.

It snowed 20 inches earlier this week here in Juneau. It was enough even to overcome the Go-Go-Gadget adjustable-ride-height all-wheel-drive Audi that I drive.

Once the plows came by I still had to go to work.

Pansies.

Lucky! I'm waiting for the snow to get down to Eugene.
