Lavos - my job is to pimp our shit - we do videos that are topical or relevent sometimes. when we do those videos, we rely on our fans to get the word out. we don't do videos "for the views" but it's not unreasonable for us to ask you guys to help us "get the mad views, yo" when we do something that could get big. essentialy, help us out and don't be a dick.

Crap, Fool of Name is way cooler than Unclever title, but too late to change now... Okay I might do this now... or rather later... when I have the ever elusive "free time."

I thought you were Evil Jim. When did that change?

I thought the video was a bit lacking. The end was an obvious joke, and the beginning was supposed to be humorous because of how it incorporated dramatic irony.

Not my cup of tea.
I can't think of a signature.

There was something strange with the sound, the volume changes quite a bit during James' monologue. It is noticeable between 1:32 and 1:33 and also between 1:53 and 1:54.

Knowing absolutely nothing about film making and not in any way implying that I could do it better than any of you (because you all are awesome), I would like to suggest a solution. Perhaps you could move microphone towards wherever the speaker is speaking at.

HOWEVER, what is more important is the script for this movie was FANTASTIC! I love the work all of you are doing!

That was Bill's fault. Awkward microphoning.
Though, in his defense, he didn't really know that what he was doing would cause that, and no one else noticed either.

But, I'm still blaming Bill. Cause... y'know.

By that definition, half of the videos they've made wouldn't be worth watching.

And honestly, who gives a fuck? If it's funny, then it deserves the views it may or may not get anyway.

Sumimasen, daijobu desuka?
Weeeell, I get kinda roused up when I see someone make an accusation like that. I could have just kept to myself and the outcome would have been the same. So I guess I just need to stop defending those I know don't need it, eh?

Sumimasen accepted, let's get on with our lives.
The strong survive, lovers strive, and the thoughtful ones get out alive.

Look. All I'm saying is that she doesn't not look like a whore.

I just got schooled in the ways of Digg after I confessed to having no clue what I was talking about (several pages ago). While I'm totally in favor of making LRR as popular as possible, I get the impression that I'm being pressured into linking a video solely for the purpose of views. I link videos that I like, and generally, we all like these videos, or we wouldn't be here.

We all want LRR to get bigger, and unless I'm mistaken, it's steadily gaining a following and getting popular all on its own, partly with the aid of sites like YouTube and Digg. What we shouldn't do is "pimp out" these videos just for the sake of views, because by that analogy, LRR would be a whore. And she's not a whore, she's a classy lady.

Hopefully next week, the video will be awesome (as it typically is), and somebody will go: "Hey, this week's video was pretty funny. Somebody should Digg this, so we can share it with people who aren't familiar with LRR." Maybe even in Latin, since that seems to be getting popular in here...

(My post count is low because whenever I decide to chime in on these forums, it ends up being stuff like this.)

I accept that - the problem is, and this isn't a function of this community, it's a function of human natre, that unless prodded to do so, people don't usually take that initiative.

The only reason I even pushed so hard at the beginning of this thread is that there had been no acknowledgemnet of or action taken on the suggestion of digging this video.

ultimately, the thing got what, 35 diggs? nearly 10,000 people have seen this video. of those 35 thought it was worth taking 30 seconds out of their day to promote, and those 35 only did so after being poked repeatedly.

If I hadn't brought it up, no one would have done anything at all.

LRR's following is growing, it's true. But it's growing at an ASTONISHINGLY slow rate. We've been at this for 6 years, and we have a smaller regular viewership than many web video sites have after 6 months. Our community is great, but it's pretty clear that something isn't right insofar as growing it is concerned. We're looking at a lot of different ways to improve that, but one ting I am personally asking is that our viewers mobilize and do everything they can to get people coming here.

Tell people about us. Show us to your friends. Share topical videos with people you think would like them, and if you think a video is particularly relevent or enjoyable, digg it, promote it, stand on the mountaintops and shout about it to the masses.

We NEED your word of mouth.

When I push hard to get something posted to digg, it's because we're relying on you, our viewers, to help us out. We do everything we know how to make this place great, and all we ask in nreturn is that you make an effort, regularly, to share us with others.

I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

I know I'm lazy, but I liked the old Digg link right on the video page, which made it easy for everybody (especially those who don't read the forum) to digg the video without having to search out the digg link.

(for the record, I am currently in the process of digging this week's video).

My friend enjoys Unskippable, so I keep telling him to watch Loading Ready Run. Have you guys seen any boost in traffic since signing with the Escapist?

Is there not a way to put a digg thing on the video's page? I thought there was something like that you can do. If it is too much intensive work, then that makes sense. As for mobilizing the viewership and all that, isn't that what the Runners' site is going to be for? If so, then maybe getting it online as soon as possible will help us help you.

If there are any fan based things that you think would help, Matt, please let us all know (you have my email from before anyway, when I helped you with the press kit).
