I wondered when someone was going to post this. He was a safe bet in the celebrity death pool. Still - very sad to see him go. I thought the man stayed gold. <3

FYI Arius, people die. Being a celebrity doesn't make you immune.

They are getting older, diseased, and dying.

Well we had plenty of warning on Swayze, wasn't he diagnosed over a year ago with a much, much, shorter life expectancy?

But... That was my last hope.

But I mean in such a short time span. Normally we get one or two of these per year.

I don't really care about celebrities, but it's really weird that they're all jumping on the bandwagon of death.

Posted in Youtube thread:

With the sad passing of Patrick Swayze, perhaps the MST3K guys need to write a new tribute. Their Christmas song is a fond memory of my youth.

Then again, all we need to lure him back is a hot chick doing pottery.

Well, there is a positive side to his passing: Adrian and Barney are now reunited and dancing to "Workin' For The Weekend" for eternity.

People have asked me if I hold to a unifying theory that informs my writing on cinema. In the past I've told them that I simply judge a movie on its success or failure in representing the perceived point of view of the filmmaker, but now I realize that I was just saying something to get rid of them. What I really believe is that a film should be judged on how well it comes off when compared with the Patrick Swayze film Road House. For Road House is the single finest American film.

I watched the Chippendales' bit from SNL so much, that is my proof that Patrick Swayze was the man.

Ghost is the only Swayze movie I own -- and not for Swayze, for Mike Jittlov's special effects -- but I'll have to give it a watch soon. Poor guy. I hope hope he had a good time on his way out.

Wow this was a surprise to me.

Side note, one of out thousands of British celebrity chefs have died today, Keith Floyd, not as important as Swayze but 2009 has been a bit of a savage year.

*Edit*
Even weirder, a humpback whale has been found dead in the Thames. What's going on here?

So is it an especially bad year for celebrity deaths or is it just getting more media coverage? Or maybe it's because I'm getting old and I actually recognize the celebrities dying.

Who do'you think will be next?

My bet's Mel Brooks. He's getting on now.
