I went 0-4 with my Gruul/Golgari mixup. I'm still not really sure what went wrong - I think I just had a bad case of No Good Cards (also in retrospect, I should probably pay a bit more attention to card adavantage). I lost the first round on account of the opponent just having way better cards, the second and fourth were rather tight but the opponents had more and stronger creatures, and the third was so annoying:
My opponent played Orzhov, and because he had gotten mana screwed really hard in his first game, he put 20 lands in a 42-card deck, and still got mana screwed in the second. I said something along the lines of "Wouldn't it be ironic if *I* got mana screwed now?" before we played, and promptly got stuck on two lands in the first game and the wrong colors in the second. It wouldn't have hurt so much if he hadn't been such a terrible player, but it took him forever to kill me when he should have needed something like 6-8 turns each.
Anyway, it wasn't so bad because I came in last and got a consolation prize of two boosters, one of which held a foil stomping grounds.

Went 3-1 with my Izzet/Simic deck. Though, to be fair, 2 of those victories were against 9 year-olds. Also got Melek, the Izzet Paragon to champion for me, as well as 2 shocklands, one of which was a Breeding Pool. Going to have to put it in the rare box if ever swing by Yellow Jacket. XD

I decided to go ahead and go to the last prerelease here even though it's raining, I drive a scooter, and none of my kitchen table group wanted to go, and I'm so glad I did. I went 3-1 again with Simic/Izzet/Gruul, thanks in large part to Prime Speaker Zyganna, Ruric Thar, and a FOIL Ral Zarek. :D (And my Simic pack was plain nuts. In addition to Zyganna, it also had a Drakewing Krasis, the (X)(U)(G) 0/0 flier, and the blue instant turn-to-frog (which I happily purchased a token for and used almost every game).

Achievements unlocked? I was run over by a horde of tokens from a Progenitor Mimic copying a Trostani's Summoner, I was milled out by a Mirko Vosk, I top-decked Ral Zarek when an opponent was at 3, and I Essence Scattered an Aetherling.

In addition to Ral and Zyganna, I also pulled a Voice of Resurgence in my pool and a Progenitor Mimic in my prize packs. I think I like this set, it's treating me pretty good so far!

I went to my friend's game store for the midnight tournament, and I had a great time. We had a full 68 person tournament, so we were planned to have seven rounds. In the end, we only had to do six because of all the drops, but HOLY FUCK was I exhausted by the time I left after the last round at about 7:15am.

In my prerelease pack, I asked for Azorius and had my ally be Dimir, which made my night, because I could splash in Orzhov. Love me some Esper! So in my packs, I got three each of Maze Abomination and Maze Glider, and I also got Lazav, Dimir Mastermind. That combo won me a couple of games, though I also added in some ethereal armor. I thought I would have an issue with the spells I was using needing more mana than I would have, but I also had some gates AND the Azorius and Dimir cluestones, which gave me a boost in the mana pool.

Oh and on an unrelated note, my store had a ton of the guild pins left over, so I managed to get all ten. PAX East got me going with the pins, and now I have a bunch more.

My store has a bunch left over too, but they're planning to keep them around for various things... they're planning to sell their left-over prerelease packs, and include the badges as a bonus with those. They did a similar thing for RTR when they had a heap of guild packs left over... except they charged the same amount for them as they do for a full prerelease entry, which is supposed to cover the packs, and the tournament, and the prizes. It was cheaper to just buy 6 packs, at full price (or 8 packs at tournament prices... like, you could almost enter 3 drafts for that money).

They didn't sell well.

My store did the same thing. I think they still have a Golgari pack laying around. It was just really goofy of them to do it that way I think. They ended up using them as the 'game day' packs too.

Went to a small pre-release in Aerdrie (sp?) while I was out at the Calgary Expo (the LRR panel was lots of fun)

Picked Gruul (CRUSH THEM) got Selesnya as my partner. No shock lands but I pulled an Advent of the Wurm, Trostani, and a Ruic Thar for fun rares and decided to run them all plus a bunch of Vishano Firstblades and went full 3 color Naya value plus fixing and ramp (will post the deck later)

was undefeated up to round 4 but I ended up losing that entirely due to Teysa. My deck had literally ONE spell to disable teysa but that was Arrest which still left her creature destroy passive on the field and all i could do was slowly die. Destroyed him in game 2 when she didn't come out but ended up losing the match which tied me for 1st, ending up with 3 packs after the pool split, plus hypothetically a third one if I get my friend over there to mail it to me once the set comes out *L*

was a ton of fun though. So awesome. I'm stoked to draft some wacky 3 color madness

So I was at my LGS talking to the guy who works there for the comics and knows nothing about Magic. He was showing me the guild pins he had and, not knowing the back story, explaining what he believed each guild stood for based on their symbol. So he's like, "This is the Giving Tree, this group must be the Masons, and I'm pretty sure this one is Spider Man Origins." Then he pulls out the Boros pin and says, "And this group represents White Power. Which seems kinda racist to me."

And I'm like, "No, actually it represen- DAMMIT I CAN'T UNSEE THAT NOW!" Oh Boros. What are we going to do with you?

So I was just going through my Prerelease pack and sorting the cards, I didnt even look at anything that wasnt W with R U on the night of the event because I knew I didnt have the support for it and I was already having enough trouble deciding if I should splash green or blue off the gates since I was running them already.

I toss my foils in a pile, Rares in a pile, uncommons, then commons, I sort from commons upwards, and see im missing a rare, I only have 5?

Foil Master of Cruelties

I thought that was a good event for me. no no, it was a SWEET event, im going to go play more at that store. Thanks wizards I now cant sent my kids to college.

So I wake up on Friday morning at 5am, as I normally do, go to work, and come home. My housemate had said, the day before, he was going to the midnight release on Friday night, but I hadn't played in 6 years (I believe I went to the Lorwyn prerelease?), so I had said I wasn't that interested.

Except I watched the lasted TapTapConcede at work that day.

What I'm trying to say is, I blame Graham entirely for me only getting 3 hours sleep over 2 days, and for the resulting destitution I will surely be facing thanks to this reawakened addiction. I hope he's happy.

On the plus side, I did go 3-1-1 in my first event in 6 years.
