The Late Show featured "Epic Nunchuk Fail"

Postby Tleilaxu » 03 Nov 2015, 15:09

Stephen Colbert played a clip from Epic Nunchuk Fail!

I had to pause the DVR this morning and, after my uncontrollable laughter seceded, immediately start re-watching all of CommodoreHUSTLE while preparing for work. It is still really great. Today's calls (I work tech support) have been not-so-good, and re-watching CH on my breaks has kept a smile on my face.

P.S. Do you have the last few episodes of CH (Season 1) available to re-upload? They seem to be missing.

For those looking for the video, here it is. The clip in question is used at the very end of the video

I'm just baffled that the people who source these things for him didn't scroll down a little bit to see the myriad of comments saying "FAKE!!!" or talking about cH. Or, for that matter, didn't find something more recent than 2009.

At least back when Leno's people asked for the right to show it, Graham informed them that it was fake and the rest of the details. Given that it was a funny clip that fit their criteria, it being fake didn't really matter. Presumably it was the same for Colbert's people.

It's also still one of the first results when you search YouTube for "nunchuck injury"

I suspect that they contacted FailBlog and LRR never heard of it before it aired.

You know, there must be many people that have tried to make something 'viral', it really is impressive that loadingreadyrun succeeded all those years ago.

I'd argue they did it twice, given Kate and the nope gif. That one wasn't even intentional; it was just Feed Dump being Feed Dump.

Things on My Head kind of counts as well, though that was less "viral" and more "sleeper hit" in a way.

There was also that weird video error during Desert Bus 6, that was called QWOPcam or something, where the video was flickering weirdly. I think that was a legit non-planned viral hit, but I can't find it.

This one?

Edit: Since that video seems to not be available in some countries due to YouTube copyright issues, here's a DailyMotion reupload.

The 3 PS3's was also viral because it exploited the natural source of salt.

Important to note its not really YouTubes fault. In order to not be open to be sued for every copyrighted video uploaded they must provide a system for copyright owners to identify and claim works. (The "safe habour exemption").
Without this in place, they would be like Apples App Store - each video being checked by hand and thus somewhat subject to the whims of whoever checks it. (Or, alternatively, they will have people suing them for billions)

Now that's not to say Youtube doesn't fuck up. It will flag things that are clearly fair use (to a human) but to a AI bot checking it cant tell. So you then have to argue your case.
Ive been pretty lucky myself - 10 flags and each one accepted as Fair Use once I explained it.

Would it be worthwhile for Graham or anyone at LRR to try to contact Colbert about the video and possibly Desert Bus? I feel like Desert Bus would be something Colbert would be on board with.

Thats a excellent idea and it could work.
"contact" is easier said then done, but its worth a tweet or two at least?

I feel once you have had a nut related incident on someones show, that entitles you to at least a charity shout-out.

The nunchuk video was also on national Danish TV on the show Klipfiskerne which is a panel show built around internet videos.
