Only way to move the Desert Bus is block by block, which is rather difficult considering some of the components.

I wonder how it would work if we composed it of a bunch of attached mine carts next time and the road as all tracks aside from the lines...or a channel of water and name it Desert Boat but then it wouldn't be much of a desert.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
Mine carts cannot be attached, though you could get a couple of minecarts with a powered minecart in the back, would provide suitably slow transit, though it would also be kinda jerky.

Not possible to build with things while the blocks are sitting in the minecart is it? Building one or two blocks in it then over to another mass inside another cart...then a bunch of powered carts behind it to make up for the mass on top.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
Blocks don't have physics (well, other than sand, gravel, and ignited TNT, which only fall straight down), so you can't attach them to anything movable. There are mods which allow for some mobility with certain constructions, but those are...troublesome, at best.

SCIENCE REPORT!
We have begun testing many of the components of magical and destructive force known as fire so that we can improve safety measures. we did a number of test and found that fire does not work in the way we thought it did. In fact, we have no idea how it works now. The range seems random and time 'til combustion is sporadic at best. BUT! We did find out that things burn at different speeds. from fastest to slowest of those tested: Wool, leaves, planks, and wood.
Obviously, more testing is necessary to understand this complex mystery known simply as "fire."
THIS HAS BEEN "SCIENCE REPORT!"

Science
I have been wood paneling my halls. With all the lava there I have found that 5 blocks is the minimum safe distance. I saw no fire at 4 but decided to err on the side of caution since I too noticed that flareups were not always immediate or quick. One took 5 min to burst into flame. I have had a wood section laid 5 away from lava for over 2 weeks now without incident.

Quick message before sleep:
Word on the street is that HazeNET could go under any day now. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic ... 0&t=154151). Ken and gaspode are already downloading the worlds, just in case. In the morning, I'll begin downloading EVERYTHING.
The plan was to buy the server Friday night, take down the old sever on the first, then put the new one up on the fifth. Still the plan, but may get bumped up if there are problems.
(Written from my phone, will elaborate later)

The area between the little cove/bay (With the gravel beach) and the mining tower to the west of Falconknight's base is my house. There is a large mine below the stone tower, so caution when digging is also advised. (Theres a lot of lava in the area)

From my tests it would seem that four blocks away can SOMETIMES catch fire. The block sat there for 22 minutes before igniting and it was only one block out 40 total in the test. 5 never caught fire. The weird thing is that blocks sometimes just don't catch unless they are directly next to the fire.
Oh, and fire needs line of sight to ignite something. So if you have:
[w][d] [w]
[d] [f] [d]
[w][d] [w]
[w] = wood
[f] = fire
[d] = dirt
on a horizontal plane, the wood will not ignite. so the "Ember Theory" is incorrect.

I had a chest placed by obsidian burst into flames when placed(fig. 1). I put it out and then it was fine for the week it was there. I have never placed anything that close to lava ever again. So it's odd that wood wouldn't light.
I was wanting clarification on the Ember theory. Sometimes when mining, I set myself on fire walking the corners as I go(fig. 2a-2b).
Is this the ember theory you are talking about? If so then how am I catching fire. Used to be annoying when health was shaken and not damaged. Potentially lethal hazard now that you take damage before regenerating. It's the reason my 9 is always a bucket of water no matter what I am doing.

That's because of the south-west rule where lava can set alight a block or mob that is in the corner to the north-east of a pool of lava. It doesn't affect the other spaces surrounding a piece of lava.

Well, as you might be able to guess, I am once again at work and bored as hell..... /sigh Somebody chat with me here on the forums, preferably about survival, even more preferably about work on extending the skyway system from southbase to somewhere within the land of M. There is already a spot at soutbase set up for me to connect to, I just need someone with more knowledge of making funtional railways to assist in construction.

Well, I have some hosting I am not really using I could set up some simple forums and give Fugi and the other Mods access to it as admins.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
I think there were plans to set up a site on the new server once we get that running. Not sure though.
A dedicated forum would be good though. Separating land-claims from the main discussion would keep things much clearer.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
Actually, Glutnix already made a pretty awesome website for the server, but I was waiting for the new server to set everything up (also, he needs to give me the code/tell me what to do, but that is my fault for not asking yet).
In other news, I've begun downloading everything from HazeNET, starting with the configuration files. Currently downloading old carto maps because I like them. Backups won't be preserved, so that is much less to grab
Timeline for the change is (roughly) as follows:
Friday night - Order new server from All-Gamer (nobody gave me a better offer)
Saturday - Configure the server, set up website, start up a test server.
Sunday - Debug Debug Debug
Monday - Take down the HazeNET server, copy final copy of world folder over to AllGamer. Do NOT start the servers on AllGamer, instead keep testing plugins/bukkit to get everything working.
Tuesday - Program plugins that are needed but don't exist.
Wednesday - Verify everything is working properly.
Thursday - Start up the Creative and Survival servers, but a couple hours later realize a huge flaw, take them down and rollback all changes.
Friday - Finally get the servers up for real.
Saturday - Sleep.
Hopefully that clears things up?

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
So I got Minecraft a few weeks ago, and I've been playing a fair bit. Not quite addicted, but I've been playing it more than other games I own. Anyway I really want to join some kind of multiplayer community, but it's all so damned intimidating! Minecraft is massive in singleplayer, let alone with a load of other peopel! And I just know that if I join, I'll start mining and hit someone else's, then somehow immediately fill it with lava. So basically, how strict are you guys about land, how clearly is land marked out, and how big is the world? Sorry if these have been answered already. I don't really feel like trawling through the 80 or so pages to check
I think this place is full of spies. I think they're onto me.

We run both creative and survival, as stated in the first post. If you find a clearing a reasonable distance from other structures, it's yours. If there are not above-ground markers or other obvious indicators of an underground structure, then you will not be held at fault. If you do accidentally dig into something you shouldn't have, just patch it up as it was the best you can, and leave a notice here for the owner.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
The world is ginormous, land is not clearly marked out, and we're strict about not messing with other people's stuff.
What that means is before you build anywhere, look around for any structures on the surface or doors/openings going into hills or underground. Then start building, but if you run into anything man-made, stop and fix any damage you might have made.
Oh, and it's a bad idea to start building anything near spawn. There's nary a block there that isn't part of someone's project. If you want to be safe, walk at least 3 minutes in any direction before picking a spot.

General rule of thumb I go by is that if I'd spend less time building in this empty lot than I would expanding a rail system to it, it's prime space to claim.

I'm not fully understanding the Minecart projects.
Willit go everywhere or just near spawn?
How does it work?
Is there a way to link up my base somehow?
