While I normally use this space to post ENN stories that didn’t quite make it into the final episode, the truth of the matter is we didn’t write any this week. After the whole Infinity Ward thing hit the fan last week, we knew we had to do something about it, and by the time the feature story was done, it became obvious it was time to pull the trigger on an idea we’ve been tossing around for some time: a full-feature episode of ENN.
To get things done, however, we needed to call in the help of our good friend Derek Hand, aka Tensen01. Tensen produced some great concept art for our extremely tasteless take on Modern Warfare, so we figured why not give you some full-rez versions of his work.
UPDATE: the version that went up on the Escapist 2010-03-10 was missing a couple lines of dialogue. The final version is now live.
That first one is reminiscent of James Bond.

That is exactly what it is… It was the image that first popped into my head so that’s the pose I used. Graham said it was the one he was thinking of too.

It’s the Quantum of Solace pose. It looks like he just traced over it and added Obama’s face in, even though he seems to actually be a competent artist and shouldn’t have to do something like that.

Does it have to be 100% original to be funny?
Personally, if find the Quantum of Solace pose to be the best/funniest simply BECAUSE its the Quantum of Solace pose.

Given that an inherent part of humor is referencing previous experiences and knowledge, 100% originality actually makes things less funny. For example, if you were to show the first image to someone before Quantum of Solace had been announced, they’d say “why’s the man standing in an awkward pose?”

I’m going to point out that ENN is produced very quickly, and I’m pretty sure Tensen turned that art around in under 48 hours. He’s impressive like that. Also, I LOVE the James Bond pose.

In Tensen’s defense, we gave him about 48 hours notice on these.
Also, I specifically requested the Quantum of Solace pose for the very reason that it would be recognizable, and funny.
It’s like Sledgehammer is ripping off Bond.

We’re going to be seeing more of Sledgehammer, right? I can’t wait to see what other titles they’ve got under development, such as:
– Dante’s Inferno 2: To Hell and Back
– Harvest Moon Chainsaw Massacre
– Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach
– The Oregon Trail of Corpses
– Faster Than Speed (for the six people who get this joke)

It was the bit talking about firing grenades, and it wasn’t “cut for content” or anything, I just forgot.
