Rejected ENN – May 19, 2010
May 19th, 2010

Posted by Graham

With this week’s ENN we made a couple changes to how we write/shoot the episodes. We’re hoping it will add a bit more character and punch to the series, which we feel the newsdesk stories need (we’ll talk about this more in the forthcoming LRRcast).

Now, will these changes work? That remains to be seen, though we like how this week’s episode turned out. We’ll still need a couple weeks to get into the groove though.

Until then, check out a story that got cut!

(We like this one too—it was cut for time and the feeling that it wasn’t as strong as the others, as are the usual reasons for stories getting the axe)

  1. I approve very much of this, but then again any additions to ENN would fall in my favour as it always makes me laugh. Kathleen’s celebration alone makes this video worthwhile.

  3. This is great, I always though that was a bit too much like a news network all the comedy had to be placed behind the (very much fake and hilarious) facade to be a news station, now there is a bit more wiggle room so that graham and Kathleen (and possibly Paul and Jeremy to?) can play out there characters more

  4. If I may be so bold, I could not disagree more with Mowinckel107. A large part of the humor of ENN comes from saying ridiculous things while behind that ultra-serious facade of the news station. Take away the facade and it completely defeats the purpose of having a parody news show in the first place.

I’ll be interested to hear the explanation in the next LRRcast, but for now, I don’t think I care for this change.

  5. I like it. Most news shows aren’t completely serious; they tend to do it more like the new format.

  6. I agree with Yaxley on this one. There was far too much commentary on the news stories. In what news programme do we ever learn about their characters? They’re just talking heads that read us the news, which is why it’s so much funnier in ENN. We still have their commentary during the closing credits (& in older episodes, the preroll, which I miss.) Go any further & it will basically be a WWPN discussion video.

  7. P.S. I do like the new opening graphics. Definitely keep that.

  8. “Castlevania: Quantium of Solace” reference to Pailhaus?

  9. I agree with Evil Jim. News anchors are just news anchors, a bit too much commentary (not a thing thing that would make me like the show less though). I miss the preroll too. But the new intro is great!!

  10. The only criticisms I have are that the new format might not work for every story and while it may be funny for one or two stories it might not suit all of them. One thing I did notice is sometimes the comments feel awkward when you’re unsure whether to address the camera or address the other anchor. At times it seems unnatural to speak to the camera when your addressing the other anchor during your back-and-forth between each other. I hope that makes sense

  11. If you post more “rejected” videos from ENN you should try to position the rejected stamp so that the ENN E is the the same as one of the other Es.
