This was a fun video to shoot. I love filming with Cam because he’s got a presence of character that’s very different from everyone else in the room. I described it to him as a je ne sais Cam. I’m pretty sure that’s not how French works.

The main adventure involved in filming this particular episode involved the effects that were required near the end of the video. Yeah, we broke out the smoke machine for this one (and the results look AWESOME. Props to Graham for the post effects). So, Take 1: we IMMEDIATELY set off the smoke alarm, and have to scramble around trying to find a way to remove it from the ceiling and kill it’s power supply without making our ears bleed. Take 2: We realize that we’ve filled the entire apartment with a thick haze of theatrical smoke, and choose to open he door to the hallway. Take 3: we realize we’ve now filled the hallway with a thick haze of theatrical smoke.

Then we realized that we were filming the video chronologically, and still need to do a couple shots in a smoke-free apartment. 45 minutes of waiting for the room to ventilate ensued. Kathleen used this time to write out a sign to post in the hallway indicating to her neighbours that there was no need to pull the fire alarm. Cam held a fan to a window.

We’re amazing at this.

Cheers!

Oh, that’s a bottle of Glenlivet, by the way. I know some people were asking.

Sh*t People Say

Sh*t LRR fans say: “Oh hey the new video is up”

LoadingReadyRun: Sh*t People Say
Unskippable: L.A. Noire

So, as Graham will note in the intro to this video, “Sh*t People Say” marks another fine entry in the list of videos where LRR arrives at a meme so late that it’s essentially been beaten to death already. But an old, tired premise has never stopped us scraping the bottom of the barrel before, and it’s not going to stop us now either!

The premise of this video was to, in equal parts, do a parody of the meme, capitalize on the popularity of the format to have some geeky fun, to bring the meme to it’s ridiculous conclusion finally putting it to bed, and to pretty much just do a “Sh*t People Say” video. I’d say we managed to succeed on most of those counts. A number of people in the various comment threads have made mention of the fact that they subconsciously added the X ways to Y music to the video, but I’m tempted to say that it almost strikes me as more of a Rapid-fire. Maybe a bit from Column A and a bit from Column B.

In other news, if you’re interested in some additional content to feed into your eye-holes, please note that Loading Time is henceforth going to be a recurring feature on The Escapist. New Loading Time columns and videos will update every Thursday, so make sure to check those out!

One final thing, our MtG Phases t-shirt is now available on the LRR Store. If you didn’t manage to grab one during pre-orders, now’s your chance!

Cheers!

PAX East Videos

Hey everybody!

We had a bunch of fun at PAX East this past weekend, as did the LRR fans who were able to make it. It was great to see you guys!

If you weren’t able to be at PAX, we’re sorry to have missed you, but hopefully we can be where you are at some point in the future!

For those who are interested what madness you missed, I’ve put together a couple videos that cover the day Paul & I spent travelling to Boston, and the first day of the expo. There will be a couple other videos to follow (with the meet-up and the panel Saturday was sort of an unofficial LRR day, as it turned out).

Check them out!

Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh… We’re going to have to ask you to move… on over to The Escapist to watch this week’s video!

As you have no doubt already guessed, this was a Kathleen video. Upon presenting it to the crew, she expressed some trepidation that it was too offensive or too over the top. Personally, I don’t think it is. It’s just the perfect amount of off-colour. It’s the “creamy eggshell” to our normally “arctic” white. Go, watch, enjoy – the send-up in this video is one, I’m sure we can all get behind!

When you’ve finished, feel free to kick back, and flip on this On The Run video, to watch as you enjoy the warm afterglow of hilarity:

Unskippable this week was “Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom”. Yeah, I know, I’ve never heard of it either, but apparently it exists. I honestly don’t know wat system it’s on. If you want to puzzle over the question yourself, head on over and check out the video.

Finally, you should know that we have extended the creepy-doll pre-order period for 7 more days to give you a little more time to add some terror to your wardrobe (that isn’t a function of how woefully out of style it is). Add this creepy shirt to your life for all kinds of friend & family disconcerting fun! Pre-order it here.

Cheers!

Bed Buggery

PREPARE FOR THIS WEEK’S VIDEO.

From day one, the plan had been for Paul to play the part of the bed owner in this video. Naturally, that didn’t happen. I was wicked sick with a cold on the day we shot this, and I came by Graham and Kathleen’s place for… I don’t remember. And Paul was there to play the part, but couldn’t do it because… I don’t remember. That should be reasonable evidence of how sick I was when we shot this. I felt like balls, and don’t remember most of the evening. I do, however, remember suggesting the stinger. I think that turned out well.

Spoilers- go watch the video before reading more:
The shot of Graham and I outside the burning house looks brilliant but is constructed in a way that is hilariously low-tech. We had to do that shot on a subsequent night, and we were short on people to crew. The embers are a post effect, obviously. Paul’s manning the camera, if I recall, and Kathleen is holding the boom in one hand, and swinging an incandescent light fixture back and forth randomly, in such a way that the light bounces to our faces in a random slow flicker. It looks awesome, but I’m sure to any passers by it probably would have looked like the most ridiculously unprofessional lighting system in the history of film.

Unskippable this week was Fracture. the video can be found here.

Cheers!
